Talking PET scan was clear!

Hi everyone, i just got my PET scan results and it was all clear - YAY!!! Now I can breath again. Also, my new onc has done some research and decided to give me a second year of Herceptin - another YAY! He said it wouldn't hurt, so why not? So anyone else thinking about going for that 2nd year, feel free to use me as your research!
Hugs to everyone,
Jen

Thumbs up Whoo Hoo!

Hey, that is just the geatest news. And the relief comes through from your side. You have a wonderful med onc, as the vast majority would NOT let you go for the second year of Herceptin.

You mentioned that he did some "research." Do you know what it was that tipped his opinion?? Would be interesting to know his thinking.

Hi Jen,

I am interested in finding about your profile and where you live. I am also in the process of finding a new oncologist who would allow me to get a second year of Herceptin. One of the oncologist I consulted said she would give it to me if I can find some supporting data or references. I am in the bay area, California.

thanks,
Julie

Hi there Julie and Steph. I am in Southern California, Ventura County. I had asked my doc last week when I saw him officially for the 1st time (my original onc had a "falling out" with him and left the practice to set up on her own; I was so attached to the oncology nurses I decided to stay at the same office and switch Drs - glad I did!) about a 2nd year of Herceptin. He said he'd do some research and let me know. Today he said after looking at my file, and because of the HERA trial that is ongoing, he didn't see any reason to stop the Herceptin now (he also told me last week he has another patient who has been on it for 6 YEARS!). He said I tolerate it well, so why not? He said the decision is up to me, but he thinks I should do it. I, of course, jumped at the chance and said sign me up! My old oncologist used to tell me my risk of recurrence was "HUGE" - my lymph nodes were much bigger than my tumor (4cm versus 1 cm) so this was an extremely aggressive tumor that really wanted to spread. But it hasn't so far!! I hope any of you out there that want it get your second year too.

I am so happy for you Jen. Congrats and this is a cause for a celebration! Maybe all the attention on Herceptin is finally making it to the oncs and they are listening. Good for you!!!
