Radiation pain
Okay, I have now has 25 imrt radiation. Treatments. Yesterday after 25th they measured different angles while i was laying on the linear accelerator machine. Now, 5 more boosts......however, I couldn't sleep last night because my skins is burning, feels like ripping, and throw in an occasional jabbing pain!
I call the doctor office and say my problem and she says see the Dr. Before treatment we might need to take a break. She said in beginning I might need lidocaine patches for pain down the road....well, I need them and I don't want a break I want to be done with this radiation process!

Re: Radiation pain
Hi,
The rad Onc should be able to give you some creams to help and mine also gave me a gel pad which I put in the fridge to cool and it felt wonderful on my skin. I also used 100% natural aloe vera too, hang in there as you're almost done but do ask for something to help ease the burning and pain.

Hi there,
There are creams out there that are supposed to really work! You're getting done and I hope you can find something that works! Have a great weekend! I'll be in touch ....

Re: Radiation pain
Ask the pharmacy about a cream. sometimes the first creams they give you aren't good enough and you have to buy one that's creamier - you'll have to wear a t-shirt or something to avoid getting it on everything. and take a paracetemol, pain pill for the pain. just remember to wash the cream off before the radiation treatment - your skin has to be cream free for that.
hope it improves
take care

Re: Radiation pain
My skin is starting to just peel off...it looks like I have been scorched by fire. But 3 more to go, and I can heal. She gave me lidocaine cream in addition to using aquaphor.

Re: Radiation pain
Another thing is now you will just be getting very targeted boosts to the tumor site. It will not include your entire breast so that part is done and that part will continue to heal. You will have a better outcome if you just continue with these 5 extra boosts with no break. Your radiation oncologist can give you a prescription for Silverdene (I think that's what its called) and that can give you further help.
I burned bad - even before the boosts came and was still getting whole breast radiation. When I showered, I used unscented Dove. I patted dry and then I laid belly down on the bed with my breasts hanging over the edge of the bed. This is so they thoroughly dried. Then I put Biotene cream all over. I also used Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera gel. For me, the biotene worked better. Making sure there is no dampness is also key.
You can do this - the boosts are nothing and you will have alot of healing on the other areas since they won't be getting radiation from now on.
Huge (but gentle) hugs to you.
