Wink Molly Ivins on Breast Cancer

Here's a link to an article by Molly Ivins - who had IBC and died Jan 31rst this year. I just wanted us to acknowlege her passing and appreciate her humor through this lousy disease. No matter what your politics - I hope you will enjoy her openess about her cancer and her dealing with it..

Great article, saved it because it does sum up for most of us how we feel about cancer in a humorous yet honest way. Thanks for bringing it to all of us.

RE: Inflammatory breast cancer. Ivins was diagnosed in 1999 and survived eight years. That's not bad. I assume statistics are better for IBC women who start treatment today. A woman in my support group has IBC (Her2 neg, unfortunately). Her goal is to raise her 8 year old.

Two Texas Rascals!

We lost both Molly Ivins and Ann Richards to cancer this year. Both were fighters! Never give up, never give in, never give out! They were such role models! Wit, wisdom and powerful women who could laugh at themselves! I will miss them both! But I will remember their strength and courage.

In Her Own Words...

"...Molly Ivins fought inflammatory breast cancer for 7 years, and in 1999 she wrote, "I don’t need get-well cards, but I would like the beloved women readers to do something for me: Go. Get. The. D*mn. Mammogram. Done."

Herceptin has served as the "Backbone" of my treatment strategy for over 6 years, giving me great quality of life. In 2005, I was privileged to participate in the University of Washington/Seattle HER2 Vaccine Trial.
