port advice

A friend of mine called today after finding out that she will most likely have to have additional chemo and a mastectomy following a lumpectomy that did not have clear margins. A major concern now is her port. Her initial port had to be removed after she developed a related blood clot. Now that she has to have more chemo, she is looking for another port option. I believe I recall someone posting here that they had a port placed in their upper arm. Is anyone aware of this, or other options for port placement?

Thanks for any help.

After I had my port put in (Dec 05) I developed blood clots which they said were port related. I gave myself shots (can't remember the name) in the belly for a week and then went on coumadin (every day) until a week before my surgery. After my surgery I had a doppler done and there was no evidence of clots so I no longer take coumadin. My port is in my left upper chest and I had a bi-lateral mastectomy and never had to have the port moved from it's original position.
