MRI SHOWS "3 FOCAL NODULAR AREAS OF ENHANCEMENT"
Hi,
I am almost 2 years with NED (no evidence of disease) according to previous mammograms, ultra sounds, and MRIs. I had a lumpectomy with clear margins 2 years ago, Early stage, no positive nodes, ER/PR negative, high grade tumor, Her2 Positive. I did 6 TAC chemo treatments, 6 weeks of radiation, and 1 year of Hercepton as adjuvant treatment.
I just received my Bilateral MRI with contrast results, and "3 FOCAL NODULAR AREAS OF ENHANCEMENT" WERE FOUND IN MY OTHER BREAST (THE BREAST THAT DID NOT HAVE THE TUMOR 2 YEARS AGO).
I have (as was suggested) already scheduled a diagnostic bilateral mammogram and ultrasound to further examine these 3 areas.
But as I am waiting for my oncologist to call me back, I was curious if anyone had this reading on their MRI and what it could mean. The research I have done seems to say that MRIs do find tumors that mammograms and ultrasounds might miss but also can read false positives. I also read that if I was having a recurrence it would most likely show up on the same breast that I had the cancer and if anything shows up on the other breast it could be a new contralateral cancer which is statistically not likely at my age (44 years) and stage. Any thoughts or insights into these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
