pH Therapy???

Hi, I was wondering if anyone is doing any kind of balancing of their body's acid/alkaline levels??
I've read where it has been theorized that overly acidic body tissues are more prone to developing cancer. People that have cancer have high acidic levels in their body and may even become more skewed to the acidic end of the scale due to cancer cells themselves producing lactic acid. Can anyone offer any opinions/advice on this subject???
Thanks, Amy

Hi Amy, I am one who is on the "Alkalarian" (pH balanced) diet. I started in February, and a month ago my PET showed NED, although I'd only been given 6 months to live a year ago in July, and then maybe a year at most. (I was first diagnosed with BC 20 years ago and have had mets twice since.) My husband and I are now mostly vegetarian, eat no meat or poultry or dairy (partly because of all the hormones, too, as well as the pH values). We take a "supergreen" supplement from Dr. Robert Young's Innerlight company. We also avoid sugar, which I found became especially distasteful to me during chemo. (Cancer and sugar have an affinity). We are about 80% to 85% faithful in following this regime, but allow a small slip now and then. We bought a smallish water purifier (from the Regina Co. in Canada that Dr. Young recommends) which separates acid and alkaline, so that you drink pure alkalinized water. He also has pH drops you can put in regular water, or distilled which is better. I was on navelbine 6 mo. with herceptin and femara, and now just the two without navelbine. I feel so much better than I did and expect to be on this forever. I also lost 45 pounds. We do eat fish, nuts, lots of veggies, avacodos, some fruit, soy or rice substitutes for meat, and soy or rice milk, also whole sprouted grain bread and cereal. I can give you more information if you wish, websites and so on. I have several friends who have had great results, too. Hugs, Tricia

Tricia,
Thanks so much for responding. I'm thrilled to hear that you are using Dr. Youngs products. I just received my box of "stuff" from Inner Light. I'm currently on 4000mg of Xeloda and weekly Herceptin. I'm nervous to start all of this stuff along with my chemo. What are your thoughts on that??? Would you mind telling me how, when, and how often you test your pH and also, what is your daily diet like?? I'd love to learn more from you and your experience with this. Any books or websites would be appreciated. Thanks again!!
Love, Amy

I would be very interested in more information too. I follow a strict regimen and believe that food is medicine.

Take care

Amy and Becky, and anyone else interested: This will be long, but I am glad to share! A lot of people on Innerlight use the supergreen powder and mix it in distilled water in which they also put the Biolight alkalising drops. We found that we like the supergreen capsules better, and of course don't use the alkalizing drops since we have the little water purifier. We have found the Biolight, which has collodial silver, is wonderful to use as a disinfectant on a small cut or something. The lady who introduced me to Innerlight says her husband had an eye infection and he put the drops in his eyes and it cleared up, even though the dr. said it would be a permanent condition. Dr. Young and his wife Shelley have a website: wwwphmiracleliving.com, which has a lot of info and a newsletter. Their latest book is The Ph Miracle for Weight Loss, and the book before it is just called The Ph Miracle. The website will tell you all about it. Shelley is a fabulous cook and has tons of recipes, but I am not into a lot of cooking now so we tend to not try the more exotic recipes! We eat lots of fresh veggies, especial broccoli, spinich, squash of all kinds, red potatoes, salads, avacadoes (technically a fruit), grapefruit, and as I said before use soy and rice products and milk and sprouted grains. Shelley Young sprouts everything, but I haven't learned the technique yet and mostly buy everything at a farmers' market called Sprouts. We use rice crackers, rice and soy "cheese", including a wonderful cream cheese substitute called "Better than Cream Cheese". We use soy chicken and hamburger substitutes and love them. I even make chili, using "hamburger" and tomatoes and pinto beans and spices, and wonderful stir fry using soy "chicken". There are a lot of good pH soups in Shelley's recipes and there are very interesting combos, even desserts. I use stevia as a sweetener, but my husband uses splenda (sparingly), even though the Youngs don't recommend it. There are excellent vegetable mayos and seasonings and spices. Find a good farmer's market and vegetarian products in health food stores. We avoid vinegar, but use lemon juice and lots of good olive oil. You can even eat out, just learn about the pH values of foods and balance out as you can. We have found fish prepared well is better than steak. My husband has never liked chicken, but once in awhile I will eat a small piece when we eat out, though the soy substitute is as good or better at home.I started out using tofu but my oncologist recommended using soy more sparingly so I drink rice milk and don't use tofu. My husband has a hard time with breakfast because it's his favorite meal, so usually we will have a bowl of soy milk & "Ezekial 4:9" sprouted cereal, which you can buy in healthfood stores. Once in awhile I make pancakes as a special treat using spelt or kamut flour or mix and ground flaxseed. We use only Smart Balance for butter. We don't use a lot of fruit because it is sweet, but use alittle with the pancakes. About once a month my husband has to go out for bacon and eggs! I am grateful he is so supportive and I figure 80% is better than not at all! We use herb teas a lot, too, and I will usually order herb tea when we go out since we don't use coffee or regular tea. I don't test for pH, just use common sense and how I feel. The Youngs have fabulous retreats where they teach all their methods and Shelley cooks wonderful things, but we haven't been able to go yet. Several friends have gone and say its better than a cruise and you learn so much. I have probably told you more than your really wanted and I hesitate to do a "commercial" for any specific doctor. I buy the Innerlight as a distributer but I don't work at selling it to anyone else. There are other green powder formulas available in health food stores; you can even use a little regular baking soda to alkalize the water in a pinch. I just like the whole pH balance thing with Dr Young and Shelley and it has worked for me and several friends, who are walking miracles. Try the website. I will be interested to hear from any of you again, and if you prefer you can email me direct through this her2 site. Hugs! Tricia
