Smile Tykerb

Hi Michelle, You take them all at once 1 hour away from food (on an empty stomach) and then wait another hour before eating. I take mine as soon as I awaken in the morn, have some coffee, read the paper, wait an hour and then have breakfast. Good luck with Tykerb and congrats on getting it, it is grat. Love, Vickie

It doesn't matter what time of day you take the Tykerb, as long as it is 1 hr away from food.

I prefer to take it at night.

Question Why Tykerb?

Hi Michelle: Why are you on Tykerb? On reading your profile it does not indicate mets to any organ (s)? Did I miss something? Is this a precautionary measure?

Thanks Michelle.

Michele
My RX label says take 2 hours after a meal or 1 hour before a meal.
I take my Tykerb before bedtime. I was told to take the dose all at once.
If you break up the dose, the body will metabolize the drugs differently and it will act like an over dose. So it is very important that you take all of the pills at once.

Also No grapefruit of any kind, this has an adverse effect on the Tykerb.

Good Luck to you.

My Tykerb info told me to take it either 1 hour prior to food or 2 hours after food. Don't take multi-vits or any complex vits that have folic acid in them.
Also, no grapefruit at all while taking Tykerb. Take all 5 at once. I take mine at bedtime....

Congratulations!

let us know about your side effects, if any, as so far you are one of the few (or only one) reporting here about being on Tykerb monotherapy--others have been on Xeloda and/or Herceptin, although I think someone who had previously failed Xeloda may also have been taking Tykerb alone. Anyway, any comments will be appreciated.

Hi Michelle,

I started about 9 days ago. I take 5 pills all at once about 2 hours after my morning coffee in work. (I was told 2 hours after food constitutes an empty stomach). You do have to wait an hour before eating anything, too. Find a time that works best for you and take it the same time every day. I think the bedtime option has some merit as it would be easy to remember.

Good luck. You are the first person I've heard of taking it to prevent a recurrence - you trailblazer you.

Smile I may switch

After reading all of the comments on the time to take Tykerb, I may switch.

My script said 5 in a.m. 1 hr before/after a meal but the nighttime sounds easier since I always have to wait to eat or take later on. I think I will start tonight with the p.m. before bed.

Good luck to you Michele.

I take mine in the morning because I am sure that there is no food in my digestive tract. The problem with night or bedtime is dependent on what time you eat dinner and what you eat. High protein foods such as meats stay in the digestive system for up to 10 hours and in your stomach for atleast a few hours. It is just more convenient to take them when you know there is no food in your system. Love, Vickie

Michelle:

I started Tykerb about a month ago in the TEACH trial. I take 6 tablets at bedtime, around 10:00. My stomach is usually empty then and I figured if I had any nausea, nighttime would be best. So far, so good. Have you had any side effects?

Wink Cancer Is All About Fear

The quote from (?Vicki) TO FEAR DEATH IS TO MISUNDERSTAND LIFE... is beautiful and so true. I believe death is not the end of our story. The Spirit survives, transforms and reforms, as does all energy. Energy does not die. The Soul passes on to another dimension -- the Spiritual Realm, full of Life Lessons gleaned. We are each a radiant Soul. Full of personal empowerment most of us have yet to discover. I pray you will each learn to connect with your true selves, your Spirit, and find that you can call your desired destiny to you.

What you think all day determines the outcome. If your thoughts are full of fear, doubts, worry, anger, resentment, blame, remorse, the inability to forgive it is obviously composed of of negative energy. If the thoughts you dwell upon are full of love, kindness, generosity, awe and gratitude, belief in your power to heal yourself, passion, determination, clear focused intent and triumphant victory in your quest -- the energy you transmit to the Universe is chock full of positivity. The Universe senses your energy and responds IN KIND. So careful what you think. YOU ARE THE MASTER OF YOUR FATE. Concentrate on what you truly want, not what you fear. God knows this is a great challenge, especially as a bc warrior -- but I believe in you. Become a miracle! Sending loving, healing energy to all my Soul Sisters always... ANDI

Wink Fighting Off The Fear Factor

PS I have been fighting off the fear since '95, and especially since '98. It is a daily process. Monitoring my thoughts. Allowing the what if's and should be's to be experienced and then consciously dispensing w/them as soon as I possibly can. Then connecting w/my spiritual Essence, my Spirit and finding myself lifted up to joy and serenity. Meditation each day, deep breathing and focusing only my the inhalation and exhalation, helps ground me. I become reminded that we are each magnetic fields of energy, drawing neg or pos energy to us from the Universe. I AM ONE WITH THE UNIVERSE is a mantra of mine that is a personal favorite. It is soothing. Reconnects me. Allows me to just BE -- in the moment. Stay in The Now, where happiness is. Don't get caught up in looking ahead or back. Fond memories are joyful, but stay clear of anger, blame, resentment, remorse and the inability to forgive. Reach for kindness and compassion with pure LOVE and as much Grace as you can muster. Sending loving, healing energy to all my Soul Sisters always... ANDI

Andi, i want to talk with you more about the spiritual side of cancer/life. I have lots of stories to tell! It's getting late and i will get back later. Just to give you a idea of what happens in my "world" Last night i was at my mom's house spending the weekend with her. I was taking my dog Tinkerbell out at midnight and i was looking at a little deer lawn ornament she had by her tree, i thought to myselft, someone is going to steal that. Don't know why i thought that, but today she told me someone stole it over night!! I know, weird.

Wink Always Trust Your Inner Voice!

Your instincts told you what your Spirit KNEW would happen! I saw a woman on the news about a yr ago. She was going to work. Walked to bus. Stood in line. Suddenly had this awful feeling about her daughter who was waiting at the bus stop about a block from their house. She was late for work, but stopped, turned around and RAN back to her house. Just as she arrived she saw her daughter being grabbed into a strange man's car. She ran to her side. Grabbed her ankles and was pulling as the man started tugging to get her in to the car. The woman screamed loud. A male neighbor came out to see what was going on. The driver then panicked and let go of the child! SOMETHING deep inside her told her to run, to save her child, and against all "reason", being late for work, she followed her heart. And she did indeed save her child from God knows what.

Your Soul knows more than you can possibly begin to imagine, somehow. It speaks to you through your Inner Voice. It wants what you want. It is wise beyond knowledge.

Your "deer" story is yet another example. Start noticing the connection between "a feeling" and what actually transpires. Inexplicably.

Yes, I would love to talk to you more on this -- anytime.

Sending loving energy... ANDI

Thumbs up

Michele,
Wishing you the best of luck with your Tykerb treatment. Did you have your recurrance after herceptin? Also, do you know if anyone else is taking Tykerb
off label ....I only know of those taking Tykerb in the trial.

Once again wishing you the best and I will keep you in my prayers to remain
NED...

Hugs,
Jean
