Thought I'd let you know how the Day of Caring in Denver went. Our table was very busy. I wish I had some idea of the number of women we spoke to.
We had a regular flow of women stopping by all day long. Not many actually used the computer, but we did demonstrate the site to some. Lots of interest in Herceptin. Seems like the main question was, "What are its side effects?" I'd say most women, when asked whether they were HER2 pos replied, "I'm ER pos." They really had no idea what this was. Lots of education needed. Some were or had been on Herceptin, but I don't remember ANY who were or expected to be on it for the long run. Even Stage IV women. Surprising. One young woman, recently diagnosed is in a 3-arm trial and doesn't know whether she'll receive Herceptin or not. We were surprised that such trials still exist since Herceptin is a proven entity. Several providers of one type or another wanted several brochures for their patients. We talked about the importance of brain scans. We talked about Herceptin (Mel said he kept being asked whether her was a drug rep!). We explained HER2. We talked about the tremendous support on this board. We talked about the importance of getting support somewhere. The HER2.org brochures were the post popular, followed by a brochure titled Understanding Pathology, folders all about HER2 and a piece called Clinical Trials, probably in that order. All in all, a great, but tiring day. I now have this 5'x2' heavy duty banner for use if any of you do similar events. And I hope Joe will post a couple of photos on the Pictures page.
Love and light to all,
Lisa
