Hi Sue -
Since I had such a fast and furious case of liver mets my first scan was at 4 weeks. (YES, it was hard to wait and I was wringing my hands waiting for my doctor to see me when I went to get the result! His broad smile told me what I wanted to hear!) Good progress was shown so the interval went to every 6 weeks, until just a few small spots were left. There was one large tumor that was wrapped around my main hepatic vein (lots of nourishment there!)that was stubborn and the last to go!
Finally, after over 6 months on treatment, and stable, LOW CEA tumor marker, I had a PET scan to confirm that the remaining spots were just some scar tissue or dead cells waiting to be cleaned out my my ever-so-obedient liver.
NED so get a scan every 3 months, which may be lengthened now.
Hope this lets you know that these waits are normal and the docs don't want to subject us to any more scans than necessary.
