MUGA score is the Gated Cardiac Scan....why the name....I really don't know. I get two shots when I do the test....one to prepare my red blood cells to accept the radioactive dye which is injected 30 minutes later. This dye attaches itself to the red blood cells so that they can visualise the blood in my heart. After the second shot you lie down on a table and electrodes are attached to your chest. A gamma cameral is placed close to your chest and images are produced of the heart to determine how well it is functioning. Hope this helps.
