ABSTRACT

Gn-RH Analogues Protect Fertility in Early Breast Cancer

By David Douglas

NEW YORK FEB 21, 2006 (Reuters Health) - Use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (Gn-RH) analogues during adjuvant chemotherapy protects ovarian function and appears to have other beneficial effects in young women with high-risk early breast carcinoma, Italian researchers report in the February issue of Cancer.

Lead author Dr. Francesco Recchia told Reuters Health that the approach gave "complete ovarian protection in women aged less than 40 years of age" and "all patients with estrogen receptor-positive tumors, treated with complete estrogen blockade were disease-free after a median follow-up of 40 months."
