Before we wholly accept the story of lead in lipsticks, let us be sure that the story is totally true. In this day and age, I just have hard time to believe that lead is still allowed, even in minute quantity, in a body contact material. The story further says that by rubbing a gold ring with the suspected lipstick, the red color will turn to black color. I know chemistry quite well and the claim is hard to believe. Gold is one of the very inert metals. It normally cannot react with ordinary compounds, including lead. It takes nitric acid and hydrochloric acid to attack gold. This story is fishy to me.
