I have always been on the bandwagon that family history OR your own genetics maybe not inherited from your parents, was a much bigger part of breast cancer than we know of. Genetic studies are just beginning to give us some meaning. I can envision a time when they will be able to tell us what cancer we will get, and possibly by an age range that it will happen. Or they could tell us what our risk percentage was.

I have always been at a healthy BMI and had a good cancer prevention diet. I have done everything to try to prevent cancer, but it didn't help me. Later I found out I had a mutation in the P53 gene. NOTHING I could have done, aside from removing my breasts preventatively, would have given me much hope from preventing this. Even with being stage 2a and node negative, I still couldn't prevent it from becoming stage 4. Same deal with my mother.

I don't hardly waste my time on diet anymore. I eat a good diet, and forget it. I still buy organic stuff, vine ripened fruits, grown my own garden, and watch my carbohydrates and fats (especially animal), but I like eating semi healthy. I just hate to crush people's hope. I'm just the poster child for doing everything right, and still couldn't escape my genetic flaw. I just wish I had know about the mutation sooner. I would have had the boobs removed!
