I found this article in the health food stores magazine

"TASTEFORLIFE"

Canola Confusion
"I was distressed that in a recent article on healthy oils "Remarkable Oils," 10/05), canola oil is listed in the chart. If the information I have about canola is correct, your magazine should be speaking out against it since canola may cause intestinal distress as well as other problems. I understand that the plant was originally rapeseed, from which toxic mustard gas was made, that Monsanto genetically modified the plant so that it is less toxic to humans, and that it's a success simply because it is extremely cheap.

Marcia Zimmerman, MEd, author of "Remarkable Oils," replies: Not all canola oil is genetically modified. In fact, organic canola oil is available from a number of farmers. Regarding your comments about mustard gas, you may have gotten hold of an urban legend. Please check out http://blessingforlife.com/dietnutrition/canolaoil.htm.
The word canola was coined because it has a better ring than rapeseed. They're essentially the same oil with one important exception: Raw rapeseed oil contains erucic acid, which is harmful to humans. Both canola and rapeseed oil sold for human consumption have the erucic acid removed. Not even GMO canola contains erucic acic. Monsanto genetically modified canola seeds (as well as corn and soy) to withstand widespread spraying with RoundUp, the corporation's weed killer-another reason to select organic canola.
