Mickey, at this point you should forget about trying to keep the hospital happy; they can "write off" your debt if they choose to. Your children's needs and your peace of mind come first...I know it's hard to tell the bill collectors you can't give them any money, but that may be what you should consider doing until you can get some help from social services. Hang in there. I wish I had more concrete help. HUGS.
