Hi Fontaine -
Losing a pet that is actually really a family member is always hard. I am a "cat" person and have had good luck in keeping most of my cats for upwards of 15 years and one was 20.
I still "see" some that I have buried long ago in their favorite places. The cat I have left even responds when I call the names of the others that she lived with as well. She really grieved the loss of Nellie about 16 months ago and was actually a little depressed. Brigitte will be 16 (in people years) in early August. She is doing well so far, but she is at the point where I watch her a little more closely as animals can't tell you when something is wrong with them. It is up to us to pick it up before it gets bad for them.
You were a wonderful "mom" to your dear Annie.
