I was diagnosed with the Epstein Barr virus in 1990 at the age of 32. All of a sudden I came down with flu-like symptoms (sore throat, extremely tired, body aches) and saw several doctors over a couple of months. They insisted I was suffering from depression! Knowing that I was not depressed, I did a lot of research and came upon this virus. I finally asked for a blood test for the EB virus and my doctor called me early the next morning and was aghast at how high my counts were for the virus. I suffered with the symptoms for over a year before they finally settled down. Over the years, the symptoms would rear up again, particularly when under a lot of stress. (I am a Project Manager for major corporate office renovations and can work 14 hour days for several weeks at a time during a renovation). Rest, good nutrition, and exercise are the best prescription.

Anyway, for years the medical community has not spent much time on this topic and it has been very frustrating to a lot of people who have unfortunately been diagnosed with it. It can be debilitating to some. I read an article sometime around 1995 that they were finding links between EBV and an increased risk of cancer.

And voila! in 2002 I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

It is very encouraging that they are now measuring this. Thank you so much for sharing these articles.
