Hi Patty
Although I still have both my breasts, I am still thinking about a prophylactic bilateral with immediate reconstruction. That said, I wanted to be ready doctor wise for such a procedure (or if anything else happened because I would get a bilateral then). The best place to go for information is the FORCE site. It is Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered.
www.facingourrisk.org.
This site is for women who are BRCA positive or have alot of cancer in the family. Women who are BRCA positive not only get bilateral masectomies when diagnosed (and oophorectomies) but many do so prior to getting cancer so that they won't. Those ladies know the doctors and I got several recommendations for the New York City and Philadelphia areas. All were top of the line in their field too so I am armed and ready to go if and when I want. Go on the main forum to post and you don't have to sign up in order to post. You won't be sorry going there.
I hope this helps.
