Re: Stillhere's poll question #2
Were I a newly diagnosed patient, this whole discussoin would seem very bizarre to me. It is obvious that this is a question that is important for whatever doctor is prescribing the therapy that causes this question to need to be dealt with, to not only grasp in terms of its full meaning for the patient he or she is treating, but to advise the patient about in advance of treatment. If this is beyond the treating provider to do it then it is up to that provider to be sure that a medical provider who is more capable has done so, as part of what is legally called "informed consent".
The whole discussion provides significant answer to the question Stillhere was asking:
"Do you think your oncol avoids discussion concerning libido? "
It doesn't have to be the onc who actually does it. He or she can cop out if they want to, but they should be making sure that a GYN or a nurse who has more guts does it ahead of time so that the patient can use that information as part of their decision-making process about whether or not they think the treatment is worth the trouble and expense before they are treated. This is not a "minor issue" to be dealt with only "after the therapy" "if the question comes up".
