this paper is showing it can detect DCIS better before it becomes invasive. It the breast you had mammo'd was the affected breast it would show earlier if you were getting another breast lesion in the same breast. If it was the other breast it would detect a preinvasive DCIS before it became IDC.

There are radiologist who are good at deciding whether a previously removed breast cancer is recurring based on MRI, but as I understand it, it is best to have one with a lot of experience with breast MRIs looking to decide if what they see is post-operative change vs recurrence.
