There are 2 forms of the alcaline phosphatase : one for the liver & one for the bones. Zometa will tend to reduce the one for bones. An increasing level of the marker for bones may indicate the presence of bone mets.
I don't think Zometa has side effects on the liver: occasionally on kidneys ,on jaw bone & serum calcium.
But you must also take into account that random variations of markers are not significant unless they persist in one direction. So do not worry but keep monitoring.
