Rhonda, Thats a tough one. I wouldn't want him to miss the first day...but due to only being six years old and such a big event going on I know I would be worried sick. (Roads closed, traffic, people all over...weather, etc.) What a headache! I have a feeling you AREN'T going to be the ONLY one concerned about this. You might find out lots of kids don't make it for the same reason? (After all this was totally unexpected.) I am sure the teachers might even be expecting a few kids to me missing due to President Fords funeral.
I don't think it would hurt him to miss the first day under the circumstances. (I hope he isn't the type of kid that LOVES school...then your in trouble.) LOL But I would do what makes it easier for you so that you don't have to fret and worry.

9-29-09 Power Port Placement
10-24-09 Mass 6.4 x 4.7 cm on Rt. femur head.
11-19-09 RT. Femur surgery - Rod placed
12-7-09 Navelbine added to Herceptin/Zometa.
3-23-10 Ten days of rads to RT femur. Completed.
4-05-10 Quit Navelbine--Herceptin/Zometa alone.
5-4-10 Appt. with Dr. Slamon to see what is next? Waiting on FISH results from femur biopsy.
Results to FISH was unsuccessful--this happens less then 2% of the time.
7-7-10 Recurrence to RT axilla again. Back to UCLA for options.
