Tens machines do work on the nerves but you have to be able to direct it correctly into the right nerve roots. You can also buy them through chemists and physios in Australia.

Anti inflamatories all work a little differently so you may need to try a number to find the right one but be carefull to eat with them as they can do alot of damage to your stomache lining. Voltaren have recently been implicated in heart issues here in Australia so it may be worth discussing with Dr.
