What it means is that for some, insurance may not cover the cost. It will probably continue to cover the cost for those that are currently able to get it. You have to remember that Hercepitn as an adjuvant for early breast cancer hasn't even been submitted for FDA approval yet (I think) and it is not approved yet for this use but women are using it and most women are getting it paid for.
However, it is a setback since this submission was for use in the metastatic condition and this is never the best of signs.
At my cancer center, they are an approved location for the Avastin adjuvant trial. I know 2 different women on the trial that are receiving the drug. They get it starting with their first chem (the AC and then the Taxol - both as dense dose) and then it goes out to a year from when they received their first AC. I don't know if they are accepting HER2+ women in this trial. One of these women had to get FISH for HER2 because she was a 2+. But wasn't HER2 (she said then she could be in the trial - maybe because they didn't want to have women to get both Herceptin and Avastin in the adjuvant setting in the trial so the results would be clean).
