Re: Stage IV Survivors out there?

Dear Gift,

I, too, find StephN's story inspiring, especially when I read studies of long-term survivors who are ER-positive, or only have bone mets, or are oligometastatic (only one, or just a...

A Place to Vent about "Awareness"

Several of us have strong opinions about "breast cancer awareness month." If you want, you can talk about them here.

Here's a blog post I wrote about it. http://www.durfeewest.com/pinktober-again/...

Re: Severe breathlessness - heart/herc. or lungs?

Belinda,

What a huge relief! I'm so happy to hear this.

TDM-1 has been very, very effective for some people, with lasting results. Several folks on the board have been NED for an extended...

Re: Liver mets....advice?

Embur,

As others have said, everyone's different and responds to treatments in different ways, but many of us have conquered liver mets, following different paths.

I was stage iv at diagnosis,...

Re: New HER-2 iPhone App

That's one interpretation, but if the "an" prefix only referred to males, then "anthropology" would be the study of men and a "misanthropist" would not hate all of humankind, but only males. My...

Re: Prayers for Kristin Schwick

Carol Ann,

I'm with you. October used to be my favorite month. No more.

Poor Kristin. It's so very sad.

Re: "remarkable results" presented for adding Perjeta(pertuzumab)to Herceptin for Sta

I'm on Herceptin and Perjeta too, though I started out with no chemo and now I'm taking Xeloda, which I'm tolerating well.

The best thing about the "mab" drugs (stands for "monoclonal antibody")...

New HER-2 iPhone App

I went to the LBBC fall conference last Saturday, and in the schwag bag I found a beautiful white journal from Genentech with a card announcing a new "4HER" app for iPhone to be released this month....

Re: Chemo/GERD/ILD

I have a partial update.

One other thing I've been experiencing is dizziness and near-fainting. And I sometimes just run out of air through my larynx in the midst of talking or singing. I sing in...

Re: Prayers needed... Scared

Keep in mind that your uterus and ovaries may protect you against heart disease. And you are very young to go into surgically-induced sudden menopause. You may find it unbearable, and then need...

Re: Supplements/diet changes to prevent recurrence

The one thing that has actually been proven to reduce the chance of recurrence is moderate exercise. Walk 30 minutes a day.

Most supplements have not been proven, which doesn't mean they are...

Re: T-Dm1: "'...decreased in size... density"

Thank you for sharing! I'm glad she's responding well to TDM-1.

I'm also impressed she's had lung mets for almost 14 years and has (apparently) been pretty stable. If I make it 14+ years I'll be...

Re: Ok, I'm sure I should know this but what are Mets & micromets?

I think Nurse4u2day has it right.

Keep in mind there's a difference between "metastasis" and "stage IV." Metastasis is cancer cells traveling beyond the original tumor. Micromets are tiny clumps...

Re: Interstitial lung disease and CEA levels

As I've said before, lungs are complicated!

I found an article a couple of years ago that said some lung lesions look like metastatic breast cancer but are actually benign. I remember when I was...

I...

Re: Interstitial lung disease and CEA levels

I'm so sorry you're facing progression. I hope this new course will get you stable again.

I have never had tumor markers. Sometimes I think that might be a good thing.

Re: Chemo/GERD/ILD

Caya,

I didn't have asthma before breast cancer treatment.

I've figured out that lungs are complex.

Good to hear from everyone. I think I'm going to get this resolved--soon I hope.
