Oncotype DX test can help guide treatment decisions and enable personalized care befo

New data presented at the 2016 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) demonstrate that analyzing tumor biology with the Oncotype DX test can identify patients unlikely to benefit from chemotherapy prior to breast cancer surgery (neoadjuvant setting) and guide treatment decisions without compromising outcomes.

Re: Oncotype DX test can help guide treatment decisions and enable personalized care

This study was done on HER 2 negative patients. I specifically asked the three breast surgeons I consulted/considered for my second mastectomy along with my oncologist when diagnosed with this second primary breast cancer a couple months ago about doing the Oncotype DX test, thinking that perhaps there was the possibility I could be exclusively treated with Herceptin this time round rather than chemo as well.

All of the Drs said the same thing: this does not apply to Her 2 positive patients. Are you guys hearing the same thing? My oncologist said he would offer "Herceptin only" without the chemo to his patients who were "little old ladies" who couldn't tolerate chemo but that statistically my outcome was 30% better/less risk of recurrence if I got the chemo. The research studies are not there for Herceptin only patients.

My insurance would not pay for the Ocotype DX test.

I sure wish I understood why I have been the unwilling grower-of Triple Positive breast tumors in both breasts, six years apart and somehow address and fix THAT so that they don't sprout up elsewhere now that I'm plum out of breasts.
