Nervous... I hate change...
Saw onc today and he thinks I have a hernia. I have an appt with my surgeon on the 9th to see what to do.
Now the issue... Onc wants to change chemo since I progressed in my kidney on halaven. I left the office with the nurse trying to get approval for gemzar and perjeta. She called me and said no luck with them together. Onc wants to try the perjeta so we are trying approval for perjeta and herceptin (still on tykerb). I like the fact that side effects will be less but am nervous about not having an actual chemo, assuming this gets approved. I also feel like I've heard quite a few people stop gemzar due to no response. Please, any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Cathy |
Re: Nervous... I hate change...
I am unable to offer you advise on this as I have no knowledge of these txs . However I do wish you the best and hope everything gets approved!

Cat, Just in case you end up on Herceptin and tykerb, I want you to know I was stable on it for 32 months until I had to change things up again. Best Wishes, Cathy

Hi Cat,
Not sure if my situation would apply to you or if it would be of any help, but read my signature, I have been on so many drugs, and I do remember Herceptin and Perjeta doing the trick for awhile for me. Not despair, there are many combos left for you, just work with your doctor and together you will find the appropriate combination for you. Sending you vibrant and positive vibes. Sincerely, Adriana |
Re: Nervous... I hate change...
Thanks ladies for all the support.
Adriana, it looks like the navelbine did well for you as well as perjeta and herceptin. It gives me hope. and love the "vibrant and positive vibes". Cathy/Ceesun, thanks for the vote of confidence as it feels scary to go without an actual chemo. also, it seems there are a lot of Cathys on this site and all spelled with a "C". Odd since people tend to want to spell it with a "K". Nurse4u2day, thanks for the well wishes. Gotta keep remembering that so much of this is out of my control and breathe... Hugs to all Cathy |
Re: Nervous... I hate change...
Hi Cathy ! I've been on reduced dose gemzar with abraxane and herceptin since march. I have heard this combination is very effective from my oncologist but unfortunately I seem to be one of those who don't respond well to this regime. I'm also trying to get on perjeta but it's usually approved with taxotere. Since I already lost my hair on abraxane I don't mind getting taxotere as my next med. if your disease is localized in your kidney, is any kind of local treatment possible? Good luck to you !
