Diep flap? Consult Tuesday.....thoughts/ideas
 

I have a consult in am, and I was looking at all the reconstructive type surgeries ....how does a person know what to do? I thought I would remove right breast when doing reconst on left. Now, I am not sure if I should do that...

My breast surgeon said in the beginning that the odds of getting cancer on the right side I think was 1%. So symmetry I suppose would be the reason to remove it....

Good luck with your appointment. Make a list of your main questions.

Most have a reduction and lift on the opposite breast to match the reconstruction. Either at the same time, or later after the reconstructed breast has settled.

The doctor did a did a BRCA test today and scheduled diep flap for September. And if my BRCA test comes back positive I will remove right breast and if negative then I won't have it removed. But now just hopefully insurance will pay for BRCa test some insurances cut off at 45 and some cut off at 50.

And if positive will remove my ovaries too. I sure hope insurance will cover this genetic test.....
