Thickening of the uterus lining

Hi ladies, I had a transvaginal ultrasound due to an enlarged ovary. My ovaries appear to be fine at least the right one does the left one could not be seen. The doctor said that the lining of my uterus has thickened, probably due to tamoxifen and needs to be checked again in 6 months. What does this mean and what are the dangers and/or affects of this. Would appreciate any input.

Thickened uterus lining is a side effect from Tamoxifen and some people think it put you at a higher risk for endomeotrial cancer. But if you are monitored frequently it should not be a concerning. They can also do a D&C to take some biopsy from the lining if needed.

I have a few friends who had this too as a direct result from taking Tamoxifen and it seems to be common.

I had the same issue from Tamoxifen... thickening of the lining, also ended up with a 6mm "mass" on my right ovary.

Ended up having to have a full abdominal hysterectomy, ummmm... pretty much for no reason. Turns out that my "mass" was just me ovulating almost 2 years after chemo. The spotting that I started having on the day of my surgery, was me getting my period for the first time since chemo. Mistakes made all around.

Just keep an eye on it with ultrasounds :)

Re: Thickening of the uterus lining

I had requested for hysterectomy/oophorectomy two years after my recurrence and was approved based on personal and family cancer history. After the surgery, the surgeon told us that there was 'hyperplasia' in the uterus - pretty sure it's the thickening of the lining of the uterus, a side effect of Tamoxifen.

Been feeling quite well and have put back on some needed weight. You might want to get tested for the BRCA genes if there's family (including blood relatives) cancer history involved. The cancer incidents in my family seem to match the description of the HNPCC http://www.nature.com/nsmb/journal/v...b.2511_F5.html cluster which involves colon cancer, brain cancer, breast cancer, Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, cancer of the reproductive organs (ovaries, uterus), and digestive tracts ...

My BRCA test had found a BRCA 1 Variant of Unknown Significance ...

Jackie, I have been tested for BRCA 1 and 2 and thankfully, both were negative. I will continue to be monitored.
