Shouldn't take a fever lightly!
 

I'm bored because this is going on my 2nd day in the hospital for neutropenic fever. My wbc counts were alarmingly low so my onc sternly told me that if my temp hits 101 go to the ER and it may be that night -and he was right. That same day while at work it went from 97.4 to 101.3 in a little over an hour. Hopped in the car and a few minutes later in the ER it was 102.7. I didn't feel too bad, just chilled but had I not been carrying a thermometer in my purse at work, who knows how high it would have gone. So now I'm off work (again) for a couple days getting lots of antibiotics IV and a neulasta injection. Can't go home until I have an immune system :(

Seems to always be something but I'm getting used to it I guess.

I'm sure when I went to my first onc appt. they gave me datasheets on what to eat, etc. but I guess I never really paid attention. While on chemo, no salads, raw veggies and pre-cut fruit, etc. I figured that was for foreign countries! Anway I'm going to be more careful now as I was getting a little irresponsible following doctors orders.

Don't beat yourself up. I think every onc is different. I asked mine if I should avoid salads, etc. and she said she didn't believe in avoiding veggies and salads.

I get a Neulasta shot the day after every chemo and have been okay (other than the Neulasta side effects)

I hope you're out of there soon!

I'm so sorry to hear our latest trouble...but soooo glad you posted. I was starting to wonder if you were okay. Scrabble buddies are near and dear to my heart!

Yikes! It never ceases to amaze me how fast things can go south for one of us. Thank God you were vigilent about taking your temp! I got neulasta after each infusion and hated the achiness afterward...but reading about what you're going through...every ache and pain was worth it! You poor thing!

I hope all is well and you are safe at home very soon!

I went septic once from an infection. It is not to be taken lightly, having no immune system. Glad you are okay!

Thanks for the post about fever. It is good information for all of us. My MO also emphasized about calling them if I should have any fever, but I just didn't think too much about it. I have had a cold for the past 10 days, with lost of coughing at night, but no fever.

Glad you are being well taken care of! That happened to me - I was in the hospital for five days. I didn't feel that bad, but they weren't going to release me until my counts when up. When they finally did, they skyrocketed. I ended up on daily neupogen instead of neulasta. Hope you are sprung soon!

Oh I fought fevers. But stubborn me...I was so determined not to end up at the hospital. I drank a ton of water and stayed in bed until the fevers would go down. My Oncologist didn't push me to go to the hospital unless I had other symptoms like a headache, or a soar throat, nausea....etc. Hope you feel better soon!
