Well That's A Bummer

So my last dose of Herceptin was scheduled for January 30th. I am a wee bit dramatic and planned an over the top exit from cancer. I have been working on a sugar figurine of myself to put on top of a cake to take to the infusion center. I order balloons that will be delivered on January 30th. I ordered a T-shirt with my official NED date which would of been 01/31/13. A friend of mine was scheduled to come to document my last treatment and we were going to make a fun video to Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys. I had a vision....and then came the call from my Oncologist telling me that in fact they miscalculated and I was actually done two weeks ago.
I had a lot of anxiety about finishing treatment. I felt so safe getting Herceptin every three weeks. And I knew I would be stressing as January 30th approached. So maybe God planned this for me to ease the anxiety and stress. Maybe I'll take the pink balloons to the Labor and Delivery wing and give them to all the women that had baby girls.

Not a bummer, congrats on being done. Make that cake and take it to the cancer treatment and share it with the family you grew to know there. I took something for the staff for my first 6 chemos, heck I was there all day so I made the best of it, dips, I even made stuffed shells once for there lunch. They were great and that is just what my husband and I do. U can still make that video but without your infusion, make it a farewell video. Just a suggestion. What a cool idea, you deserve some kind of celebration. The anxiety of being done will ware off and u will find yourself thinking about it a lot less. My last herceptin was kinda bitter sweet cuz I loved the girls there and was sad about not seeing them but I got over it. I pop in and say hi once in awhile. Good luck to you.

That's awesome! I agree with Chekmark! I took cookies to my last day of my nasty 6 but plan on something awesome when Herceptin is done in August. I think you should post the video on this site when you're finished. Do you have a port? THAT'S what I want to celebrate losing!!

Well, your post just made me laugh! I think the "snafu" can provide someone with your obvious talent and energy with an opportunity to take it even further over the top! I mean, it's like you slept through finals, missed your graduation and still somehow wound up valedictorian! You should be entitled to your own graduation, complete with tshirt and video of you getting to eat the cake with sugar figurine all yourself:)

Enjoy the celebration!

So I still made an appointment with my infusion center as I now need to get my port flushed every 4 weeks. I am going next week and plan on taking cake, balloons and hopefully a new t-shirt I ordered with the right NED date. I want to celebrate with my angels, the oncology nurses. They deserve a big flamboyant Thank You from me. And I am going all out and getting my version of a Superbowl ring...a nice sparkly ring to commemorate this journey. Here's the picture from my jeweler.

It's as over the top as I am.

Your post made me laugh, too. My mom used to say, "man plans and God laughs". Anyhow - good that you will still celebrate and GREAT that you are DONE!!

16 years ago, when I finished treatment, I called my dear friend in Denver, from the car, and said, "the doctor just released me from chemo. I can't believe it, I am so excited, I feel like going to take the kids out of school and celebrating - taking them for ice cream and toys!" And my friend said, "Why don't you go to 14Karats and buy yourself something special?"

I still wear that solid gold diamond encrusted heart almost everyday! My kids are grown, they would not have remembered the toys and my wusband is just that...
take home message:
A DIAMOND IS FOREVER :-)
Congrats!!

SoCaGal: I took my little boy to the toy store and bought him two new books. I know he won't remember it but I wanted to give him a little something for being such a good sport during the crap we went through. That night he kissed my port scar and said: Mommy booboo all better.
I cried. An the following day I called my client (who happens to be a jeweler) and placed my order for my ultimate ring. I should have it in two weeks. I am having them engrave my NED date on it and every year I'm NED I will have them add a bar on the inside. My hope is to completely cover the inside of that ring with bars. :)

Thanks you all for the well wishes! So excited to be done and creating my non-profit. We are finally incorporated and I am now finalizing our By-Laws. So exciting.
