liver biopsy

I tried doing a search, but I'm terrible at finding in for that way. Please feel free to send links if I've just missed this somewhere. I'm having a liver biopsy thursday to see if my mets are HER2 positive still. I keep getting mixed results where some tumors regress and some grow and there are some new ones. My question is what to expect with a liver biopsy? Is it painful? Recovery? Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: liver biopsy

Krissi,
I had it done, and I worried more than I should have. It's not that different than a core needle biopsy of the breast, but you have to remain very still. I held a nurse's hand and that human contact made it sooo much easier. Everyone in the room feels for you! I think I was kept quiet for observation for a few hours.
Wishing you well,
Karen

Re: liver biopsy

I've had 3 separate biopsies in the liver. It's not comfortable, for sure, but you can get through it. The location of the target lesion sort of drives how they can approach it, I've had 2 different locations, one was easier than the other, I won't lie, but both were doable and it's important to have good information on which to base your treatment decisions
