News from Adriana, No Bad or Good, just

Hi Everyone,

I have been absent from you all, please forgive me for being selfish but I was enjoying my 6+months of chemo free.

Yesterday 4-28, I had the first doxil+herceptin treatment, about five hours total. I believe I had doxil before, is the red chemo. Anyone? I'm not sure if I will loose my hair--just in case I have all the wigs handy and I'm more than ready for 'em. )-:

I have nothing else to add, just wanted to update everyone on my current treatment.

Love,

Adriana

Thank you for the update, Adriana, it's good to hear from you.

I'm going to do some digging. But I think Doxcil is related to doxorubicin, especially when you mention the name 'red devil'. It belongs to the anthracycline class and can be a little bit tough (to the heart).

The color will show in the urine for several days. Kind of need to keep an eye on it in case it gets mixed up with the sign of urinary tract infection.

Take care and keep us posted.

This is from one of Lani's postings in March, 2012:

"Caelyx is the Euopean name for Doxil which is doxorubicin (Adriamycin) in a liposome (encapsulated in a gel-like substance). It is thought that this liposomal delivery system may target brain metastases more than regular doxorubicin. "

Adriana
I cant remember, did the TDM-1 stop working? Anyway, Doxil is Doxirubicin, so I would say 99.9% chance you will lose the hair...as i say, after the first time, hair is overrated...its all about beating back the cancer cells! Will be thinking of you!

All the best with the new treatment. I like Sheila's comment about hair being overated. Smile. As long as you have your wigs and a few scarves or cut hats to protect your head from the sun you will be fine.
I see you are a 90's gal like me . Let's keep going together !!

Hi Adriana,

I had the same drug and we call it Adriamycin and it was a toughie but worth it as it worked for me (so far!) and I hope you have a great response too:)
Sorry to say I did lose my hair on day 17 which is about the norm with this drug!

Adriana, I am happy you posted but so sorry you have take that red chemo.
It is a tough one. However, it is a combo called FEC which includes the red devil that first shrank my breast tumor. It was followed by Herceptin+Taxol and that did not work. So, the red devil with Herceptin may be a very good treatment for you. I figure it is every 3 weeks? Do you know after how many cycles they check the results? Stay strong.I'll keep you in my thoughts. Michka

I thought there was a shortage of Doxil so you are lucky to have it.

I am losing my hair for the 2nd time. It is not fun but I guess at least there are no surprises this time.

Adriana,
You've done beautifully (six months chemo-free), and it's nice to see you post. Hope you enjoyed the space, which we all need.
Going forward, I'm wishing you the best to rid your body of active cancer.
As always,
Karen

Adriana,

I had 4 rounds of the red devil and lost the hair on my head, but retained my lashes and brows on it. It was the taxol that took my lashes and brows! Not a fan of that stuff! Good luck with your treatment!

I had 4 rounds of Adriamycin with Herceptin which can be pretty cardiotoxic - I was tightly monitored with mugga scans and did fine. My hair (which was about 1/2 an inch after the TCH) thinned but never totally fell out. And it wasn't hard on my nails. I thought TC was more difficult then the Adriamycin but everyone reacts differently. I went to an acupuncturist to help manage fatigue and any side effects.
Its a hardworking drug though - we're lucky to have it.
