Anyone still anemic?
Its been over a year since I finished chemo and 6 months since I finished Herceptin and my RBC are still a little low (11.7) normal is 12. I was at 12 at the start of chemo which was 2 weeks after my mastecomy so fingure either 12 was my norm or a little lower from surgery. My Dr thought by now it would have returned to normal, she has checked my B12 and fentin levels and all are normal. My WBC is also about .2 points low. Dr thinks this just may be my new normal. My A type personality doesn't like not being within the normal.
Anyone else not return to normal levels or does it just take longer to eventually return? |
Re: Anyone still anemic?
Mine took years to return to the lowest RBC level although the hemoglobin returned nicely (since I had my ovaries removed so my period stopped). It's barely there now but the last time I went, it was just there which was almost weird. I am 7 1/2 years out and over 6 years from any treatment (although I am still on Arimidex).
I think for some people, this is normal. Even my RBC dropped during chemo but not low enough for shots or a transfusion. |
Re: Anyone still anemic?
I am still anemic and my last chemo was at the end of September (so only 6 months ago). I did receive a blood transfusion after my last round of Taxol because all my counts were low at that time and I actually ended up in the hospital following a fainting spell in my car. I was driving at the time but knew I was about to collapse so I pulled the car over safely before swooning.
In addition to being anemic, I am now dealing with hypothyroidism which they can not seem to get under control. I guess I am still here so should be grateful for this. Take care, |
