Stopping Herceptin
I was wondering about the ones on this board that stopped herceptin on their own and why they did. I thought there was a thread about that but, I can't find that thread.
I had mestatic lesions on my liver after 3 years of NED. I had them removed at MDAnderson and have been on Herceptin since June '05 every three weeks. I thought I read somewhere that Dr. Slamon told someone after a certain period - Herceptin probably wasn't doing anything??? Did I read that here??? Thanks in advance for your replies. |
Re: Stopping Herceptin
Yes, I remember reading that statement by Dr. Slamon to one of our members (Andi BB?)
There are some studies posted in the 'Profiles in Courage' section that might interest you: http://her2support.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=51010 Below is one of the more recent threads about long-term use of Herceptin: http://her2support.org/vbulletin/sho...time+herceptin |
Re: Stopping Herceptin
Ursula (Stage IIIB) reported in this thread that she's been NED four years after just 9 weeks of Herceptin:

Re: Stopping Herceptin
Hi I asked my onc this same question last week. He was 'cool' about stopping herceptin and restarting if anymore mets appeared.I am less convinced and feel 'dont fix whats not broken'!
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Dr Slamon thought that resistence may develop after a period of 2-3 years.I haven't heard anything since except from a patient of Dr Slamon on another board who said he wanted her to stop herceptin after 7 years NED stage 4. As usual it seems there are no easy answers in cancerland! Ellie |
