Dr. Guardino is my oncologist at Stanford - she'd always say we'll be old ladies together and her strength pulled me through.

Not only has Dr. Guardino gone from Stanford to Genentech but

she is the second female oncologist from Stanford to have left for Genentech. The first, whose specialty was not breast cancer, was a breast cancer survivor herself.

Let's see if these two women can influences the corporate behavior there--it is now a subdivision of a big Swiss drug company, rather than the stand alone company started by two researchers.

Could she be in both places?

Yes, Jackie, she is at Genentech but also at Stanford on a very limited basis.

I am really sorry she has left Stanford as a vaccine trial she was going to be the investigator on has stopped now. Hope this move will benefit us all maybe in a different way.

Didn't read the article properly! Blown away that Dr Guardino has been treated for a melanoma. I understand Marcia how her support must have been invaluable.
Maybe the universe is conspiring in our favour after all!

BTW, Ellie, I'm enrolling in the vaccine trial that is offered across the bay in Berkeley (same one that was offered at Stanford). Not sure if they have one for metastatic patients there, but I'll check.

And yeah, it was wonderful to have an oncologist who "gets it". She's very inspiring.

Thanks Marcia, I hung on hoping it would happen then she contacted my onc and told him she had left.
