Elizabeth Edwards Comment

What did Elizabeth Edwards mean when she said this summer that her breast cancer cannot migrate to the brain? Was that something her doctors assured her? I hope and pray that is true, but I don't understand her comment. Ceesun

I think I read somewhere that Elizabeth is her2 positive. Maybe she is taking Tykerb, which can pass the blood brain barrier and is supposed to be able to protect the brain.

Hmmm ... I read that comment too and it's confusing. The only thing I can think of was that she was talking about her bone mets in her skull ..

Quite often the things people say get distorted in the press. As far as I know there are no guarantees in breastcancer. Just smaller and bigger risks.

We had a discussion about this on another board I belong to. What we decided upon was that she probably meant her skull mets cannot pass into the brain directly - which is true - a tumor in your skull will not directly pass into the brain. But hopefully Elizabeth understands that she still CAN get brain mets via circulating tumor cells in the bloodstream or spinal fluid. I pray that she never has to deal with that though. Sounds like she is doing well and is on hormone therapies. I don't think she is HER2 positive but I don't know for certain.
