Calculating Survivorship
I have heard a few different versions of calculating Cancer Surviorship---
One way is by the date of Diagnosis--the other the last day of treatment? What are you ladies (and gents)using? Thanks so much!! |
Re: Calculating Survivorship
I use the date of diagnosis. There are so many patients who continue their treatment indefinately...

Re: Calculating Survivorship
I have used the date of surgery. However, philosphically, you are a survivor from the moment you are diagnosed.

I use the date of surgery!

Re: Calculating Survivorship
Like Becky, I too use my surgery date. To me that is the official date "it" was removed from my body.

I was dx June 24, 2005 and have been surviving (and thriving) ever since. 5 years and 2 months - but hey, whose counting. LOL! http://her2support.org/vbulletin/ima...ons/icon10.gif

Re: Calculating Survivorship
Like many of the others, I also use the date of surgery as my survivor status. Hope this helps, and it's always great hearing from everyone! ;)

Re: Calculating Survivorship
I went into surgery after a biopsy that didn't show cancer. But the pathologist thought it should come out, as he felt uneasy about it. He was right. A week after my surgery I heard I had cancer.
But I count from the day I was holding my sister's newborn babygirl, the day before I heard the results. That's the day my new life as a cancer survivor began. It's totally unscientific, but that's how it feels. And it's the day after my nieces Birthday, so easy to remember. Every year I go to her party, see her growing taller and think: at the time I thought I wasn't going to see you grow up. And look at you now! She's 6,5 and she looks a lot like me. She's my little angel. Jacqueline |
