estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Hi everyone
As my cancer is estrogen triple positive(ER+++) I was looking on internet to find out more about it. I saw interisting information about using low-dose estrogen therapy (cheap tbs daily) to controll metastatic cancer and improve quality of life. That is about cases which don't respond to standart treatment. Also said that respond will be back after estrogen therapy. If anyone heard something about it please share. It's really important for me as I still don't know if I'll have my next promised treatment(lapatinib).I may not be eligible. Sending you, amazing women, my love Galina |

Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Galina,
Tamoxifen or AI are usually given after completion of chemotherapy. However, from the information I located off the drug information, it seems to imply that it can be used simultaneously in the metastatic situation: Your doctor has prescribed tamoxifen for you. Tamoxifen comes as a tablet to take by mouth. This medication is used to:
Tamoxifen is usually taken once or twice a day with or without food. Take tamoxifen at around the same time(s) every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain anything you do not understand. Take tamoxifen exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. |

Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Hi and thanks for the replys.
Jackie, sorry, may be it's my foult - I didn't make it clear. I was talking about ESTROGEN thearapy - using low-dose estrogen to stop BC progression, not ANTI-ESTROGEN thearapy. Tricia found right links for me as I been reading similar article which called "Low-dose estrogen thearapy stops breast cancer progression"20Aug2009. Sorry, I'm new with PC so cannot give the link. Hope to learn. I'd like to try that treatment, not sure it will be possible with my onc. For now not having any treatment as all previous not working any more. Thanks Tricia again Galina |
Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Galina,
My friend tried tostesterone after almost twelve years of chemo, sadly it did'nt work for her, but I don 't know enough about it to advise. I think if chemo is not working anything though, anything is worth a try and hope your onc feels the same way!:) |
Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
I personally felt that 66 patient is too small a sample and 1/3 response doesn't prove much of anything. There's no follow-up research/articles after this study was published. Giving estrogen to patient whose tumor is fueled by estrogen is illogical.
Estrodiol cream was given to me a couple of years after my first breast cancer treatment to relieve the 'dryness'. Once my recurrence was found, my doctor told me to stop the cream 'immediately'. Please talk to your doctor (and more 2nd opinions) before getting this 'treatment'. |
Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Tricia, testosterone is different to estrogen I found.
Jackie, sometimes illogical things work in life and I don't mind to experiment. I guess I haven't got much to lose if other treatments don't work for me. Thank you Peace and love Galina |
Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Hi Galina
Yes, I know it's different but thought it may give you something else to look into. My friend who tried it had spent twelve years on chemo and become intolerant so she felt she had nothing to lose. I agree that anything is worth looking into more, Lani may have more info and advice on this for you if you send her a pm! |
Re: estrogen and respond to standart treatment
Gilina,
TDM-1 is said to be coming (getting approved)next January. This link http://www.tykerb.com/ has the contact information of GSK whom you might be able to talk to directly in order to get the drug for you. Several members on this board has had bone mets or liver mets. Please use the 'Search' button on top and put in 'bone' or 'liver' and look up how they manage their bone mets and liver mets. Check out also 'Long-term survivor' and 'Long-time survivor' threads (using the 'Search' button) and read the treatment histories of many of the members who contributed to that thread. There are successful stories there. So please don't lose heart. |
