Second opinion
Thank you to everyone for their input. I have scheduled an appointment with a very knowledgeable oncologist at the University of Colorado cancer clinic right after I get back from visiting the new baby.
I also have a stress test and an echo scheduled for mid-July. I have continued to walk a minimum of 45 minutes everyday and do yoga twice a week. Before recurrence I worked out at the gym 3-4 times a week and was riding and running 15-20 miles a week, so I think my heart should be back to normal soon. Anyway, I just feel very uncomfortable discontinuing Herceptin at this time. Maybe I am just paranoid, but I have not seen anything to indicate that I should stop right now. My husband and I went to a workshop "Couples Facing Cancer" yesterday and we both found it really helpful. If any of you have a chance to attend a similar workshop, I highly recommend it. Will keep you posted as to what the other onc says. Best regards to all, Emelie |
Re: Second opinion
Thanks for the update, Emelie. We'll be looking forward to your upcoming postings. And thanks for the tip (about 'couple's counseling'.)
You've mentioned about the stress test and echo. It is pretty much standard procedure during chemo - to make sure your heart is functioning well. I had to drop out at 23 weeks into chemo/Herceptin because my Muga had dropped. I think whenever the score drops more than 10%, the treatment is temporarily halted until the heart recovered. |
