Receptor Status

It is so encouraging to read about all the advancements for Her2+ bc. However, since my recurrence was triple negative, I can't help but feel that I won't be able to benefit from this should my cancer come back.

What are the chances that if I have another recurrence, it would be her2+? Does anyone know? Every time I express my concerns to my Onc. about not being her2+, I just hear, "It is what it is."

I'm sorry. I know other are dealing with real issues and this is just a what if for now.

Re: Receptor Status

Tonya,

I remember reading somewhere that patients who are triple negative just take the regular chemotherapy. And there are some very powerful chemo agents out there.

Try to focus on the 'here and now' and not to worry too much about the 'future' and the 'unknown'. There are so many progresses made everyday. I'm even hesitant to conduct any search on the subject at the moment since we don't know what the status really is.

'One day at a time' didn't mean anything to me before I had discovered the cancer in me. It meant something different when I found the recurrence. It now means just 'One' 'Day' 'at' 'a' 'time'. No more, no less.

Re: Receptor Status

If it helps, triple negative BC seems to be especially vulnerable to Metformin, a common diabetes medication thought to effect breast cancer stem cells. There are numerous other cancer therapies in development that are not receptor specific. If you think about it from a big pharma standpoint, the cash cow is in therapies that work across the cancer spectrum. At least I hope that's the dynamic.
