Metformin and Breast Cancer

Can someone please explain the connection between this drug and its benefit to breast cancer? Don't understand what the take home message is on this. Thanks, Ceesun

Re: Metformin and Breast Cancer

Initially thought to work solely by dealing with glucose metabolism issues of cancer, they are continually finding more pathways (eg. mTOR). Looks like it could be helpful across many cancer types but especially helpful in triple negative. The long history of the drug and the fact that many diabetic cancer patients have safely taken it while on therapy make it a lower risk "off label" option.
