pain during biopsy

Hi,
Have a new 4 cm tumour to right breast. When I had the biopsy it was excruciating (I sobbed, much to dismay of dr and radiologist). It is now 3 weeks since and still sore. They don't intend surgery 'unless it ulcerates' because of my history. The whole breast is sore and I hate being able to see it every day (the tumour). Help! Anyone else experience that sort of pain? I certainly didn't first time round.
Love,
Adrien

Hi Adrien
I had exactly the same following my biopsy. It remained red and bruised looking till I had my mastectomy some 3 months later. The pain did subside but not for quite a few weeks and my onc said this was due to the tumour cells! Great!!
I also sobbed and cried out much to the dismay of the nurse who stopped the surgeon and made him give me local anaesthetic.
Sorry can't offer anything to improve it but wanted you to know you are not alone in this.

Adrien,

I had a really hard time with my biopsy too. I had to call doctor
to let them know. They told me I could put some ice on it, but don't keep it on there a really long time. I found some relief with a sports bra.

Hope you are feeling better.

Hi Adrien,

That's awful! Not only do you have to deal with a new tumour in your breast, you have the pain on top of that. It's unfair, and I wonder why they can't give you something for the pain?

Also, I remember reading that there is a benefit to removing the tumour even though there are other tumours present. So perhaps you could look into that, because I gather from your words that this is what you would like to consider. Maybe a second opinion?

Hugs

When they finish comparing pathologies to see if it's a new primary or the same ca I'll broach the subject again (lumpectomy). I wish I'd had them both off ten years ago!

Re: pain during biopsy

You made the best choice you could, based on the information you had at the time. If we could look ahead, we'd all live better & safer lives. But we can't. so we do the best we can. Perhaps having both breasts off would have made a difference, perhaps it would have come back in the scar tissue anyway. We just don't know, and that's one of the hard parts.

Hugs

Hi Adrien. This is a lot to go through again. I hope you feel a little better now. I had a lot of pain after my biopsy. I cried also. I had a 5 inch haematoma just after. It hurt me for 10 days. The doctor said "this never happens"... I did not believe him.I am sending you hugs. Michka

Adrien,

What kind of pain medicine are you given? There's no reason for you to be suffering from the pain constantly. Please seek a second opinion from a reputable doctor.

Re: pain during biopsy

Adrien,

Hope you are feeling better. In 2008, my oncologist told me that if my tumor kept getting bigger, he would not have me do surgery. I told him that I wanted the tumors removed. I read articles that stated having the primary tumor removed could help with survival. I had to feel that tumor in my chest for six months. Kate the Great on this board told me not to touch the thing. It was very hard not to touch the thing. You are in my prayers and thoughts. Hope to hear from you today.

Thanks Amelia,
I see you know how I feel. Why did kate say not to touch the tumour? Just curious.
Lien— I'm sure you're right . Life is too full of if onlys.
Michka and jackie 07, the pain (and haematoma) have subsided after 3 weeks.
Love,
Adrien

Re: pain during biopsy

Adrien,

I kept wanting to touch them. I told her this. When I would take treatment, I was curious if the treatment was working. This was a very anxious time for me. I would walk around every night saying, by the stripes of Jesus I am healed. The exercise helped me to go to sleep. At times, I would still wake up at night. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
