Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
LOL Pinky... No, the prune holiday is Passover (Pesach), because of the matzo - the flat unleavened bread.
Hanukkah is the festival of lights. The Maccabees, a rebel Jewish army, were victorious over the Syrian army in 165 B.C.E. When they went to rededicate the Holy Temple, which had been defiled by the Syrians, they found only a small flask of oil to light the menorah. There was only enough oil to last one day, but it miraculously remained lit for 8 days, hence the lighting of 8 candles, adding a candle/night for 8 nights. The oil theme continues with the food. Potato latkes (pancakes) are fried in oil. Sufganiyot are small jelly filled donuts without the hole that are fried in oil, then rolled in powdered sugar. Not a very healthy holiday, but man, those latkes are good. They can be eaten with sour cream or applesauce. Oy, I better go shine up my menorah!! all the best caya |
Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Caya, now that you have made all of us hungry -
I too wish to send my best holiday wishes to all our sisters, brothers and their families who will be celebrating Hanukkah. Blessings Jean http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:0...cs/menorah.gif |
Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Yes, Happy Hanukkah to all. I am not Jewish so don't celebrate it, but my onc. is and I always like to give him greetings on Jewish holidays when my appointments hit near those days. He always seems pleased.

Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Hahahahahaha-you just made me crack up. This is the potato latke holiday - the celebration of the oil that (supposedly) burned for 8 days and nights. I think the prunes might be for passover - with all the matzo balls that are also a form of (Jewish) glue:)
Thanks for the Chanukah wishes! xoxo Merry HO HO! Flori |
Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~

Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Marcia,
You are amazing! There must be a mental telepathy between us. I was just now agonizing who I should contact to release my frustration... See the 'hypochondriac' thread under the Caregiver's Corner where I just moved my reply. |
Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Hmmm, telepathic ....maybe THATS where my brain went!
Hugs,Marcia |
Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Happy Hanukkah! Don't eat too many latkes ... they're fattening. I had three for lunch on Friday.

Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
Adding my Hannukkah wishes as well. Celebrating with my entire family this weekend. My dad has been sick since Sept 29 and I am his sole caretaker so as you can imagine I have been extremely pre-occupied. I peek in from time to time to check up on all from time to time.

Re: ~ Happy Hanukkah ~
