Oncologist near Detroit, Michigan?

Hi friends!

I feel so guilty for being a fair weather friend...or foul weather friend. I promise I have not been far away...and check in often but have been more of a lurker. You dear, sweet firiends have been so THERE for me and I will never forget your loving support.

I have made the major life-changing decision to move my family (myself, my 7 year old son, my 3 year old daughter, 2 dogs and a rabbit) to Michigan. We live in Dallas now but I grew up near Detroit. I have been here 19 years. I am grieving somewhat. I love it here in Dallas...love my home, friends, doctors and co-workers. But being a single mom with NO family nearby has been tough this past year. And I just want to be closer to my sisters and other family. I do have such dear friends but there is nothing like family!

I bought a house in Rochester, Michigan.

I would be so grateful for any suggestions on doctors up there. My oncologist here in Dallas will be giving me names too. But I have such respect for all of you...I thought I would check with y'all (oooo...that sounded soTexan...probably won't be hearing y'all too many more times...lol).

Thank you friends!

Hugs,
Maureen

Good for you....the climate isn't near as good, but nothing like being near family! I have family in Grand Blanc and Perry....I dont know of any Oncologists, but there are lots of Michigan people on here...i know you'll get some good advice. What do your children think, are they excited?

I don't know any oncologists near Detroit, but you might want to ask Carolyns.
Good luck with the big move !! Take care.

Hi I live in a metro Detroit suburb about an hour from Rochester so my oncologist ( Dr. O. Signori) would be a ride for you. We have many good facilities such as Karmanos and Univ of Michigan which may be of help to you. Welcome Home! Ceesun

Re: Oncologist near Detroit, Michigan?

Hello,

I've lurked since April 2007 when I was diagnosed with Her2. I'm NED now.
I registered on the site (meant to for awhile!) because I live in Warren, Michigan-not far from Rochester at all, and I wanted to help you find a place to go here.
I want to fill you in on nearby doctor options.
I go to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital Rose Cancer Center for follow up (went there for treatment too). There is also a Troy (closer to Rochester) Beaumont Hospital you could find a doctor at.
If you don't mind traveling to downtown Detroit, you could go to the Karmanos (I need to check that spelling) center.
At Royal Oak Beaumont my surgeon is Dr. Dehkne (love her). My oncologist is Jeffrey Margolis (satisfactory).
And, I had radiation there-no complaints.
I started at St. John hospital with everything but, a friend who is a nurse at Beaumont directed me there and, they treated me more aggressiviely.
I hope this helps and, if you have anymore questions, I will try to answer them. Also, Gilda's Club is close to Warren if that interests you. I use to go there. They have a lot of activities for you and the kids.
Beaumont and Karmanos are well-respected. You'll even be close to Wayne State University where they are busy working on a Her2 vaccine!
Please feel free to ask more!!

Thank you so much for your ideas!! I really appreciate your taking the time to list all these out. I feel reassured! I will meet with my Oncologist by phone today to get her recommendations in the Detroit area and then see her in person the day before we leave.

Thanks again Barbara Ann, Ceesun, Elaine and Sheila! I am going to send a message to Carolyn too but know she has a lot going on right now.

Hugs,
Maureen
