And How Was Your Day?
 

Yesterday Christine and I were scheduled at 7:44 AM to fly from San Diego to Newark Airport in order to attend a family wedding this weekend. We were delayed in security and missed our flight. Meanwhile our luggage had been loaded on the plane and was enroute to Newark.

The airline scheduled us for the next flight at 1:05 PM. We decided to wait for that flight. Meanwhile there were fierce thunderstorms in the NYC area and our 1:05 flight was delayed with a tentative 3 hour delay.

We decided to return home and try again today.

Meanwhile, the original flight, that we had missed, was diverted to Syracuse and was delayed there for several hours. That flight originally scheduled to land at 4:30 did not arrive until 9:30 PM - a 5 hour delay.

The second flight that we passed up on finally took off at 3:30 PM and arrived at Newark Airport at 1:00 AM.

Ordinarily, I would have been pissed, but considering what Christine and I had been through the last 10 years, this all seemed trivial.

I called Hertz to change my reservation only to find out that by reducing my rental by one day, my rental charges went up $110.00. I'll save that battle until today.

Wish us luck as we are trying to fly to New Jersey again this morning.

PS. I called the airline about the luggage and it is safely stored at Newark.

Good Luck on the trip actually happening today...take a coat, its been cold in the midwest, and all this crap weather heads East!

Good luck Joe to you and Christine on trying to make that flight. Glad your luggage is safe. At the beginning of June my brothers and I sent my mom and stepfather,Harry, to NYC for her 70th birthday - flight, hotel, Broadway shows, dinners, the works. Their American Airlines flight went on time, directly from Toronto to Newark - Harry's luggage was lost and has not been found to this day!! OY!

I think I would prefer a nice airconditioned airport to the hot box our house has become! Hope the trip goes smoothly today.

Got up to 95 degrees on my hall thermostat by last evening. Only got down to 84 in the hall overnight. Plus my neighbors in the cul-de-sac behind our house had a power outage for several hours last night. Found out when I heard a generator running. These houses have open beam construction, which is usually great, but we don't have as much insulation as attic construction.

Cool enough to have breakfast on the back patio, but going back up to 100 today! Got a book and a basement for the rest of the day!

So true about the weather. I'm only about 20 minutes from Newark airport, and yesterday in the afternoon the thunderstorms were fierce. At the first boom the cat took off to hide somewhere.

Good luck today with your flight, enjoy the wedding and have a safe, uneventful flight back.

It sounds like you and Christine are going to remember this trip for a long, long time. I hope you finally make it to the wedding. Go prepared for anything. I heard the weather back East is also going to be remembered for a long, long time too !!!!!!!

Good luck tomorrow!! What a bummer. Sounds like something that would happen to my HUSBAND!! He attracts bad luck with airports like a magnet!! (not kidding!!)

my sentiments exactly. When people tell me how bad their day is, I ask them, "can it be worse" and when they say "yes", I reply, "so really it's not that bad" and I get a smile;) Enjoy your trip...Take care and God bless.

i flew back to west coast via newark on weds and was delayed 6 hours. heard a flight to orange county was cancelled and some people were not getting out until friday.

3rd time in as many years have had problems with newark this time of year, weather, something to keep in mind.
