This one seems very exciting, and without a lot of exclusions, at least based on what is posted.

I would encourage people who are interested but are in other areas to contact the study sponsor about locations; my study location has never been on the list.

what is the known potential for TDM-1 to treat brain mets?

There is no known potential at this time.

Hi Brenda -
Just trying to think logically, I wouldn't think T-DM1 would have the same potential as Tykerb.

It is pretty well established that Herceptin (the "T") can't get past the blood brain barrier. And the smart bomb (DM1) is carried by the T to the target cells.

Maybe someone in the trials has some more scientific info that might explain otherwise.

I hear that there is a new trial to begin with T-DM1 and another unnamed compound called GDC0941 (something like that.) Dana Farber I believe. Plus there already is a trial with T-DM1 and Pertuzamab, which I don't know if it is small enough to pass the BBB.

Things are happening!!!

Brenda,

There is not data re treating brain mets - but I agree that intuitively, it would not as the base of the drug is Herceptin which is a molecule too large to pass the BBB.

Also, in the trial I am on they just amended the informed consent, adding that if have progression to the brain which can be treated locally, you can continue in the study. Which implies they do not necessarily expect DM1 to prevent or treat brain mets.
