I bought it last week and watched it for the first time. It is so powerful and moving. God gave this Dr. the will and support to never give up. Because of his discovery I am here one year + after cancer dx. These women and all women who participate in clinical trials are heroes.

Thanks Maryanne! I thought I would have to wait until Breast Cancer Month in October to watch it on Lifetime. I am thanking you first, then going to go order it.

For those of you that haven't heard about this movie, it is based on the book Her-2: The Making of Herceptin, a Revolutionary Treatment for Breast Cancer by Robert Bazell. In case some of you don't know, our "Vitamin H" almost didn't get made if it weren't for the determination of Dr. Dennis Slamon. The book is a fantastic read, I highly recommend it. Now I can't wait to see the movie!

Director Dan Ireland adapts writer Robert Bazell's autobiographical novel Her-2 to the screen with this made-for-Lifetime drama concerning UCLA oncologist and researcher Dr. Dennis Slamon, creator of the promising breast cancer drug Herceptin. Convinced that his revolutionary drug could effectively switch off cancer cells for women with tumors of the Her-2+ (Human Epidermal growth factor Receptor 2-positive) without radiation treatment, Dr. Slamon raised funds for his research with the help of Ron Perelman, Lilly Tartikoff, and the extended Revlon family. Later, as Dr. Slamon attempted to cut through the bureaucratic red tape and get his drug approved, a number of brave patients who had volunteered for the clinical tests of Herceptin sadly succumbed to their cancer. But all hope wasn't lost, because in 1998 the FDA finally approved the use of Herceptin to treat breast cancer, giving hope to millions of women and their families across the country.

Just added it to the top of my netflix queue! Thanks for the tip. I LOVE Harry Connick! I use to live in New Orleans and would frequently see him out at bars and clubs. Never got the courage to actually say hello but admiring him from a distance sure was a treat!

BUMP!

I received my copy of "Living Proof" in the mail on Thursday and couldn't wait to pop it into the DVD player. Wow, is this movie ever powerful. I hope you all get a chance to see it. As I went to bed that night, I found myself saying a prayer of gratitude for Dennis Slamon's fortitude, knowledge and determination.

If I die of other causes, I will never know whether or not Dr. Slamon saved my life or not. After all, in my situation there was a 66% chance that I would not ever have a recurrence. I can't shake this feeling I have though, because of my high Oncotype DX score, that I might have fallen into the 34% category, had it not been for herceptin. In that case, I owe Dr. Slamon, and all of the other researchers, and brave women who participated in the clinical trials my life!

Cool, can't wait to see it!!! I feel like we are all stars!!

I watched it last night - very very powerful. I met Dr. Slamon in March when he was here in Toronto for a Breast Cancer Symposium at Princess Margaret Hospital. After his talk, many of us went up to him to thank him for all his work, etc. I wish I had seen the movie beforehand, I had no idea how hard he pushed to keep the Herceptin project going.
