Out of touch till June 10

Just a little note to say I will miss you all and will be hoping and praying as hard as I can that those who need it will be getting better news in the next 17 days.

Going to Italy tomorrow with Mom and youngest sister. I remember how much good going to Italy did for "Irene in Tampa" a couple of years back! I'll be thinking of you, Irene!

We are going "hobo style" - riding a lot of trains! Packing as light as I can since no hubby along to help tote the bags. http://her2support.org/vbulletin/images/icons/icon9.gif

The higher powers will be hearing a lot about this group since I will be visiting MANY cathedrals and old basilicas. Lots of candles will be lit.

Buon Viaggio i Buon Appetito!!

Have a marvelous time, we look forward to a trip report when you get back. What part of Italy are you visiting? Our family lived in Milano for 2 years when our girls were small. I think I left a part of my heart there :)

Travel safe Lovey. I also hope that I can provide you with good news upon your return. Ed is going to kick alot of cancer butt in 17 days. Hey, who knows, I may be able to tell you that we are finally going on our 3 week Italy vacation that we planned a while ago. I still yearn for it but will keep that thought to myself and away from my Hero.

I am expecting special stories when you get back, lots of 'em>>Believe51

It's me - Steph

Hello dear friends-
Euro keyborad - g-r-r-r-r- ...
Keys are in different places and there are some extra characters.

Peeking in from the old Byzentine capital of Ravenna on the Adriatic coast. All is well so far and the accommodations I found on the net are proving to be just what we expected so far! We left Venice this morning and took the train to this destination. In 2 more days we will be in Florence. Italian trains are working out just great.

This afternoon we visited the Basilica of St. Vitale - a treasure trove of Byzentine mosaics. The mosaics are what Ravenna is most known for. They just knock your eyes out with the colors that have been preserved for over 1,000 years in some cases.

Last candles I lit were in the church of St. Rocco in Venice. That seemed like a good idea since this man was sainted for trying to minister to the sick in this part of the world during the great plague. He was born in France and stopped his medical studies to come minister to the plague struck until he finally fell ill himself. I consider breast cancer as a new form of plague, so felt a connection with that saint!

Fortunately this lodging has a working computer. May not run into one again before the end of the trip. So, everyone, hang in there!

Lots of love, Steph

Returned - safe and sound!

Well, dear friends, my European adventure for 2009 is over, but I am still "someplace" in the middle. I woke at 5 something this morning and did not recognize my own bedroom for a moment! Dawn light and all, but had a bit of confusion!

Off to my cancer center to have labs drawn and see my med onc next week for next evaluation. I feel quite healthy and gained 3 pounds - weighed before bed last night! Guess all the walking was not enough to offset the pasta dishes and pastries that I ate from time to time. Actually, it was probably the gelati as my Mom would have to have one EVERY day! Before dinner - and after the sightseeing.

welcome back!!!!

mamacze 06-11-2009 07:54 PM

Welcome Back StephN!
Yep, I too am back checking on the her2 girls - it sounds like you had a wonderful time - it also sounds like you will have to work in a few extra hikes to walk off all of those delicious gelatos!
We missed you!
Love Kim from CT

Aaaaaaaaaah . . . . Gelato! That and the word Gelateria (Ice Cream Store) were the first Italian words our 3 girls learned when we lived in Italy for 2 years - 17 years ago!
