Tykerb and antibiotics
 

Looks like I am having ear infection. Can I take antibiotics when I am on Tykerb? The Tykerb information sheet says Tykerb should not be combined with antibiotics. Anybody has experience with this?

Hi Julie,

It's only certain antibiotics that can't be taken with tykerb....you don't have to avoid all antibiotics. I had to take antibiotics for cellulitis while I was taking tykerb. I asked my onc the same thing at the time and she told me which ones you couldn't use but I can't remember the names now. Your oncs office should be able to tell you which you need to avoid.

And be aware of something I learned while on Cipro back in November... the Cipro family of antibiotics comes with a potential SE of depression/sadness which we believe I suffered (in spades) at the time. I wonder if taking it with Tykerb enhanced that particular SE? Hmmmm.
